Ride with the Godfather

Mountain bikes are what got me hooked on cycling. The big tires, suspension and the opportunity the bikes allowed to get you into parts of the country that you otherwise might not see instantly hooked me. Without mountain bikes who knows if I ever would have gotten into cycling. Somehow I doubt it.

Who do we have to thank for these wonderful machines? There are a handful of people, but Gary Fisher is without question one of the Godfather's of mountain bikes. And guess what, I get to ride with him on Saturday, albeit as part of a large group. But still, I get to ride with Gary Fisher! The man who was suspended from road racing because his hair was too long decided to start converting cruiser bikes into first generation mountain bikes and charged them down the hills of Marin County California. And the rest was history.

On Saturday Gary is coming to Freewheel to lead a Paul Revere group ride in which he will be dressed in Revolutionary War costume and culminating in a signing of the "Cyclists Bill of Rights" at the new Freewheel Bike shop in Eden Prairie. So if you are free on Saturday come join the fun. The ride starts at 8:30 am at the West Bank store, riding to the Midtown Bike Center for free breakfast and to gather more riders and then departing for the Eden Prairie store. Gary will sign the Bill of Rights at the Eden Prairie store and the rest of the day will be filled with food, events and serious discounts.
